The term “Shotgun” refers to the front passenger seat of an automobile. “Calling Shotgun” is the act of claiming the position of Shotgun for one’s self. As this position is the most coveted of all positions when riding in a car, the following list of rules has been created to ensure that Shotgun can be acquired in a fair and equitable manner by any passenger of an automobile. There has been some debate lately about the proper way to call “shotgun” on the way to the person’s car taking everyone to lunch. Some senior consultants try to pull the trump card over the system analysts. Females often expect the front seat for these car rides. And some people even try to put “shotgun” in e-mail minutes before we even depart the building. By providing a link to The Official Shotgun Rules, I’m hoping that most issues will be resolved from now on. Don’t forget to print out a copy and keep it in your glovebox.
